A pager is a portable wireless telecommunications device that receives numeric or short text messages. Widely used from the 1970s through the 1990s, pagers were common in medical, business, security, and entertainment fields. When a message is sent from a phone or terminal, the pager alerts the user via sound or vibration and displays the content on a small screen. Some models support two-way communication, allowing quick responses.
