This sub-group contains emojis representing the national flags of countries around the globe. More than 300 designs cover UN member states, dependent territories and several disputed or unrecognized regions, each rendered by combining two Regional Indicator Symbols (A–Z). They are convenient for sharing travel plans, cheering at international sports events, or referencing geopolitical news without typing the country’s name. Although colors and proportions may vary slightly between platforms, every emoji respects the official flag design of its nation. New flags are added as they become recognized and encoded by the Unicode Consortium.
